Após um ano de blog e muitas mudanças na minha vida, decidi iniciar um novo projeto: vou ter dois blogs agora. Um blog em inglês e outro em português. Ambos os blogs serão técnicos, pois não tenho tanta criatividade e paciência para ficar inventando historinha ou criando um diário público. O blog em inglês permite que eu tenha visibilidade global, enquanto o blog em português fomenta a disseminação de informação nos países de língua portuguesa (que tenho muito orgulho de pertencer). Nos próximos dias, os links dos blogs e novos sistemas deverão estar disponíveis pela página principal deste sítio. Ah, já ia me esquecendo de falar. Além dos dois blogs ainda teremos mais novidades de pequenos projetos. Só para deixar registrado sobre o que eles serão: 1- agentes pessoais, 2- aplicações para redes sociais (plugins para facebook e orkut), 3- infodudes (http://www.darlinton.net/infodudes/), … como costuma dizer o Buzz Lightyear: “ao infinito e além”.

After one year of this blog and many changes in my life, I decided to revamp it all and create two new blogs. One blog will be in english and the other in portuguese. Both will be technical blogs, because I don’t have time, neither patient to invent stories or to build a personal public diary. The english blog aims a global visibility, while the portuguese one help the spread of information for portuguese speakers, that are lazy to search in english, or even don’t know this language. Hence, I’m proud to have portuguese for my mother language. In the next days, the links for the blogs and new systems will be available in the main site. Btw, I almost forget to say that besides the two blogs I’m creating more little projects. Just to record it here, they will be related with: 1- personal agents, 2- applications for social network (plugins for facebook and orkut), 3- infodudes (http://www.darlinton.net/infodudes/), … and how Buzz Lightyear use to say: “to infinity and beyond”.

Tive um professor que dizia que “Matemática só é matemática quando não aparecem números, só letras.”

I am without car this week, and I just want to thank my dear friend Rodrigo for his patience and help me to commute until my job. This guy isn’t just my driver; he is my personal ping pong trainer too. I have another ping pong addict friend, Jay; I have talked about him in the Einstein path. This guy is better known like Gladiator, because of his great efforts to get all balls, even the impossible ones. Jay bought a new racket today, and now with new weapons he is more aggressive than ever. I am just a newbie in this sport and I don’t want to spend my money on this. I just play for fun, but also to win. If I start to lose all the time, I have to do something about it. I think that nobody likes to lose, and most (“all”) successful guys are well known bad loser. Think about Gates, Buffet, Slim, Soros; these guys doesn’t known how to deal with lose in just simple card game very well. Well, I have to go, because my friends are calling me to play another game. Some guys have too much hope to win one day, but it won’t be today…

I have allergic rhinitis and am doing a long-term treatment base on antigenous vaccine. I’ve brought my vaccine from Brazil, and my doctor prescription in portuguese, with some syringes, which is the same type of insulin syringes (for subcutis layer). You don’t need prescription to buy syringes in Brazil, because they are so common and harmless, but in USA you cannot buy syringes in pharmacy without prescription. OK, someone can say that USA heath-care politic is stronger than Brazil, classifying syringe selling in pharmacy like harmful.  But I think that they just want more money for doctors, like a cartel. And the hypocrisy arises from that is all about money, because I can go to Amazon.com and buy a lot of insulin syringes without a prescription. USA health-care politics is all about money, nobody really cares about you!

Now, I believe when they say NYC is crazy.

Night life in the big apple is superb, with many options, all wanting your money. Well, I was in great style, arrived in the night club in a big Limo. Imagine big even for limo patterns – 20 people completely fucked up because champagne, whisky, and many other things. When you get in a place by limo you’re VIP by default, but if get there late you have to pay; that’s the law. I didn’t care as that’s my rich night and it’s worthy. Just 5 minutes after got into the place, a cute girl asked me: “Wow! Are you the guy from the limo???”, I answered just  “yeah” and the girl didn’t let me do anything else… “smack”.   The night was just beginning.

I like hip hop, with that bad guys like gangsters and looking full of money. Well, they have so much money and couldn’t care to give a little to attract more people. But, the fact was the opposed; I gave money to get into that place. Wandering about this and dancing with hot girls, I could not believe when a rain of dollars began. At the first moment, I laugh about my thoughts and that notes flying around people. I didn’t care, because it should be just fake money, but several guys started to get the notes so I decided to try one, and it was a real one dollar note. When I realized this, I got as many notes as I could – and it was more than I’ve spent there. With my pockets full of money, I could really spend the rest of night like a limo guy. Thanks to the hip hop scumbags.

Well, last weekend I tried a special tourism in Princeton-NJ, which my friend Jay called “the Einstein path”.

 Einstein is an emeritus Princeton citizen, with great honors from the city he chose to live after moved into USA until the end of his life.

Este é um post diferente da proposta do blog, mas ele é extremamente necessário, pois vou explicar algumas mudanças que ocorreram em minha vida e que, por conseqüência, impactam neste blog. Este blog começou justamente por um anseio de mudança, buscando algo melhor para mim e para outros através da divulgação de conhecimento, e como já é conhecido da cultura popular “quem procura acha”. Não foi pelo blog (networking ainda é o modo mais eficaz de conseguir indicações), mas o fato é que consegui uma oportunidade de ir trabalhar num grande centro de pesquisa nos Estados Unidos da América, e para ser mais preciso agora trabalho na Siemens Corporate Research em Princeton-NJ. Os últimos dois meses foram uma correria nessa mudança de emprego, cidade, país e cultura.

Well, agora já melhor estabelecido, eu resolvi aproveitar este espaço e definir novas metas para o blog. From this time, I am using this place to practice my English. All the next posts will be written in English and had some interesting story, mostly fictional but based on my life experiences.

George Bernard Dantzig (8 de Novembro de 1914 – 13 de Maio de 2005) foi um matemático estadunidense, que introduziu o algoritmo simplex e é considerado “pai da programação linear”. Recebeu muitas honras, incluindo a Medalha Nacional de Ciência em 1975 e o prêmio a teoria John von Neumann em 1974.

Um evento na vida de Dantzig tornou-se a origem de uma famosa lenda urbana em 1939, enquanto ele era um aluno de pós-graduação na Univesidade de Berkeley. Ao início de uma aula em que Dantzig estava atrasado, o professor Jerzy Neyman escreveu no quadro negro dois exemplos de problemas famosos sem solução em estatítica. Quando Dantzig chegou, ele entendeu que os dois problemas eram para trabalho de casa e anotou-os. De acordo com Dantzig, os problemas “pareciam ser um poucos mais difíceis do que o normal”, mas alguns dias mais tarde ele escreveu soluções completas para os dois, ainda acreditando que eles eram trabalhos que estavam atrasados. Seis semanas depois, Dantzig recebeu uma visita de um emocionado Prof. Neyman, que havia preparado uma das soluções de Dantzig para publicação em um periódico matemático. Anos mais tarde outro pesquisador, Abraham Wald, estava preparando para publicar um artigo que chegava a uma solução para o segundo problema, e incluía Dantzig como seu co-autor.
 
Esta história começou a se espalhar e foi usada como lição motivacional demonstrando o poder do pensamento positivo. Ao longo do tempo o nome de Dantzig foi removido e os fatos foram alterados, mas a história básica permanece na forma de uma lenda urbana, e como uma cena introdutória do filme Gênio Indomável.

That is one of my beliefs on why Lua is a revolution in software development. Implements in C/C++ only the functions you need performance, all the other code write in a fast pace script like language.

Este pensamento representa muito bem uma das minhas crenças de porque Lua é uma revolução no desenvolvimento de software. Programe em C/C++ somente as funções que necessitem de desempenho, todo o resto de código escreva rapidamente em uma linguagem script como Lua.
